Quite often the blender will start to leak from the bottom of the blade unit at around the same time as the coupler fails. The gasket will replace the original black rubber gasket which was supplied on most of the KitchenAid blenders. If your blade unit can be easily removed from the jar then replacing the gasket should be easy. If you have a blade unit that will not come easily out of the jar you should be able to remove the old gasket by stretching it until it comes off. The new gasket can also be stretched over the blade unit.
