Genuine KitchenAid replacement part for Kitchen Aid blenders and a spanner that will make its removal easier. The rubber coupler is made by Whirlpool in the US for Kitchenaid. This clutch/coupler will fit all KSB3, KSB5 and 5KSB5 models.Ā
The rubber coupler is designed to break if the blender is under strain.
This will often happen if the food being chopped is too hard or being chopped at too higher speed. The part failing prevents the motor from more severe damage. The coupler/clutch has six rubber teeth which grip the underside of the blade in the blendering jug. The clutch is secured to the blender spindle (which is made of steel) with a reverse aluminum thread. i.e. you turn clockwise to undo it which is the opposite to normal.
There are two ways to remove the old clutch. First you can use the thin spanner to grip the flats on the spindle under the coupler then turn the coupler clockwise. Second you can use a large flat bladed screwdriver to gently prise the coupler off the spindle. If you use the second method the aluminium thread in the coupler will be stripped as aluminum is softer. This is not a problem as the coupler will need replacing anyway. Just make sure you clean off any pieces of aluminum left in the thread on the spindle.
The rubber coupler comes sealed in an original bag with instruction on removing the old coupler with a screwdriver.Ā To make life easier, a special spanner/wrench is included.
This spanner/wrench is small enough to slide under the KitchenAid rubber coupler/clutch and allow the coupler to be twisted off (don't forget, it is clockwise to undo it which is the opposite to normal!).Ā Used carefully, you should be able to avoid the scratches that often occur when you use a screwdriver to remove the coupler.
The special tool has been designed to easily slide under the old coupler and by twisting the coupler a little it will lock into position. Ā Now turn the coupler clockwise (the opposite way to which you would normally undo a screw or jar lid).Ā Normally the coupler will undo with only a small amount of force, however couplers that have been in place a long time or may have had some excessive load may have been tightened onto the spindle. Please use adjustable pliers or similar tool to grip the coupler if it is wound on too tight. Ā Ā In really difficult cases it is necessary to use a large screwdriver to prise the old coupler off.
