Strong Neodymium Rare Earth Magnets 12mmx1mm x 8 tool

P2005964 Strong Neodymium (NdFeB) Rare Earth Magnet 12mm x 1mm disk

Overview

These silver magnets are extremely strong, permanent magnets made from alloys of rare earth elements.

Unlike the more common black magnets, these magnets are very strong.

These magnets come in varying sizes from 8mm upto 20 mm so some are more suitable then others.

Please note that these magnets are quite brittle and will break, chip and scratch if handled roughly or allowed to 'snap' hard into one another or onto a hard surface.  We receive these magnets already packed.  Some magnets may arrive chipped and we usually include a couple of extra magnets in case any have broken.  It is not unusual for these magnets to also have small scratches where two magnets have moved across each other during packing this will not effect them.

Uses

These magnets can be used for all sorts of things. Some examples are:

  • Whiteboard magnets
  • Fridge Magnets
  • Battery Extenders (they extend the positive pole to make it easir to use and charge)
  • Securing paperwork to filing cabinets.
  • Cable pulling (great on the end of a fishing cable)
  • Finding studs in walls (the large magnets find nails and screws in plasterboard very easily)
  • Hobbies and crafts (especially badges and fridge magnets)
  • Fixing loads of things to metal surfaces. (We have many small items now stuck to the side of filing cabinets).

Magnet comparison

The table below compares the different magnets we sell. The PostIt attraction is a very basic comparision using PostIt notes to stuck together. The Postit notes are stacked on top of each other and one magnet is placed under the stack. A magnet of the same type is placed on top of the stack. If the stack can lifted and the magnet underneath is lifted due to the attraction then more postits are added. The thickness of theof the thickest PostIt stack to lift the magnet is shown below.

All measurements are approximate. Individual magnets may vary slightly.

Code Diameter (approx) Width (approx) Postit Attraction (approx)
P2004248 8mm 1mm 7.5mm
P2003461 9mm 1mm 10mm
P2005962 10mm 1mm 13mm
P2005964 12mm 1mm 15mm
P2015303 15mm 1mm untested
P2010304 18mm 2mm 28mm
P2010305 20mm 2mm untested

WARNINGS

These magnets are strong. They can easily pinch skin and cause injury.

Neodymium magnets are brittle. They will break if treated roughly. They can shatter when they 'snap' together.

Do not place these magnets next to magnetic media. They will do sever damage to credit card swipes, floppy disks and magnetic tape.

People that have pacemakers fitted should avoid contact with strong magnets.
